Abstract

|
|
Gangrenous sigmoid infarction due to acute inferior mesenteric vascular occlusion is rare.
We have experienced a case of a 68 year old male with the chief complaints of acute abdominal distension, abdominal pain, and dyspnea.
This patient was operated upon under the impression that he had acute large bowel obstruction.
Resection of the sigmoid colon and a colo-rectal anastomosis was performed in two stages. In this case, sigmoid arterial thrombosis was confirmed by histological examination. He was discharged on the 28th. hospital day after a satisfactory convalescence.
